US 290 is important to you and it is vital to the growth
of the Houston region!
We at the Texas Department of Transportation want to ensure this busy highway will keep on benefiting the community for many years to come. That’s why we are planning a major renovation of US 290.
While actual construction is still a few years down the road, we are already here to keep you informed of all the program developments as they happen.

Beyond Roads
Many of you have recently asked us about whether there's a planned rail component to our Program. We can tell you there certainly is. Our own environmental studies show that with all the growth in our corridor, expanded roads aren't enough. That's why we've reserved 50 feet of right of way along the proposed Hempstead Tollway for a High Capacity Transit System.

We mean Green!
We're always thinking about ways to integrate environmental and aesthetic elements with roadway functionality as we plan this reconstruction effort. Learn more about TxDOT's progressive approach to caring for your quality of life through its Green Ribbon Project!

INFO TO KNOW!
Thank You!
Again, we want to thank everyone who has been actively participating in our program and the Environmental Impact Statement process. Based on your feedback and further study since release of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) and the Public Hearings in July 2007, TxDOT has been developing a Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS). We are currently working with the Federal Highway Administration towards release of the FEIS for public review and comment. We will advise you once approval for release is obtained. This is another milestone in the process to bringing relief to this highly congested corridor.
You can still view the DEIS Executive Summary, the full report, and related maps of the proposed improvements by clicking here. As soon as we receive federal approval to release the FEIS, we will post the document and any map updates on this web site as well. Please stay tuned over the coming weeks.
The DEIS map drawings are online!
Based on your valued input at the 2007 US 290 DEIS public hearings, we worked to place the DEIS map drawings online to better meet your needs! View these preliminary maps.
