Community Driven: What’s happening now?

We’re glad you asked! You may have noticed wood stakes with orange markings or drilling rigs in areas along the US 290 existing right of way and wondered why are they there?

Harris County Toll Road Authority

One of TxDOT’s partners in the US 290 Program's effort to ease congestion is the Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA).

Program Partners

The Texas Department of Transportation has a number of invaluable partners helping to push the US 290 Program toward construction and completion.

Understanding Our Language

The transportation world has many unique terms we want everyone to understand. Click here to learn the definitions of several important program features.

Beyond Roads

Many of you have recently asked us about whether there's a planned rail component to our program. We can tell you there certainly is. Our own environmental studies show that with all the growth in our corridor, expanded roads aren't enough. That's why we've reserved 50 feet of right of way along the proposed Hempstead Tollway for a High Capacity Transit System. Click on the links below to read local news stories about the possible rail component:

A Message About Meetings

Several of you all have e-mailed or called us asking whether various meetings were organized by our program. They were not. If our program organizes any possible future meetings, those meetings will have a notice published here on our website.

Public Presentations

Please note that there are a variety of groups who may have hosted meetings or presentations discussing US 290 proposed improvements. These meetings may not have even included involvement by TxDOT or members of the US 290 Program team. TxDOT and the US 290 Program team will clearly identify themselves at any presentation. Should you have any questions concerning the program or about whether we are involved in a particular presentation or discussion concerning the program, please call our program hotline at 1-866-958-7290. We want to make sure you all receive the best information available. Thank you!
