Community driven: US 290

US 290 is important to you and it is vital to the growth
of the Houston region!

We at the Texas Department of Transportation want to ensure this busy highway will keep on benefiting the community for many years to come. That’s why we are planning a major renovation of US 290.

While actual construction is still a few years down the road, we are already here to keep you informed of all the program developments as they happen.

NEW!

Requests for Rights of Entry (ROE)
If you are a property owner along our corridor who has recently received a letter requesting permission to enter your property, please take time to read this paragraph. These letters are being mailed out to property owners in Phase II of the US 290 Project from W. 34th Street to Telge Road. We are sending out these letters in order to request your permission to allow field surveyors to record existing elevations on your property. No access to the interior of buildings will be required, and no damage to your property will result from the surveying activities. These surveyors will be able to present identification upon request.

If you have questions, please contact Steve Hrncir, US 290 PMC Program Manager at (713) 354-1560. Thank you!

A Message About Meetings
Several of you all have e-mailed or called us asking whether various meetings were organized by our program. They were not. If our program organizes any possible future meetings, those meetings will have a notice published here on our website.

    Public Presentations

Please note that there are a variety of groups who may have hosted
meetings or presentations discussing US 290 proposed improvements.
These meetings may not have even included involvement by TxDOT or
members of the US 290 Program Team. TxDOT and the US 290 Program
Team will clearly identify themselves at any presentation. Should you
have any questions concerning the program or about whether we are
involved in a particular presentation or discussion concerning the
program, please call our program hotline at 1-866-958-7290. We want
to make sure you all receive the best information available. Thank you!

    Stakeholder Presentations

The Program Management Team provides regular presentations to
stakeholders upon invitation, please read more about them below.

Presentation Information!
About once a week US 290 Program representatives give an overview presentation to business and civic groups along our corridor, and we wanted to share here on the website some of the information we provide. Click here to view our PowerPoint presentation, and click here to see the 3D Flyover Video of what the new US 290/Hempstead Tollway/IH 610 interchange will look like.

INFO TO KNOW!

Thank You!
Again, we want to thank everyone who has been actively participating in our
Program and our Environmental Impact Statement process. Based on your
feedback and further study since release of the Draft Environmental Impact
Statement (DEIS) and the Public Hearings in July 2007, TxDOT has developed a Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), which is currently under review by the Federal Highway Administration. We anticipate the FEIS being released for public comment in Summer 2009, and anticipate requesting a Record of Decision (ROD) on the FEIS in Fall 2009. If the ROD is granted by the Federal Highway Administration, that will conclude our environmental process. We will advise you once federal approval for the FEIS release is obtained. This is another milestone in the process of bringing relief to this highly congested corridor.

You can still view the DEIS Executive Summary, the full report, and related maps of the proposed improvements by clicking here. As soon as we receive federal approval to release the FEIS, we will post the document and any map updates on this website as well. Please stay tuned over the coming months.

The DEIS map drawings are online!
Based on your valued input at the 2007 US 290 DEIS public hearings, we worked to place the DEIS map drawings online to better meet your needs! View these preliminary maps.
